Gabrielle Liriano
Gabrielle Liriano (b. 1995) is contemporary classical Dominican American composer from the NYC Metro Area as well as a songwriter, bassoonist, and teacher. Her compositions move the classical tradition forward as they delve into melodic tension, polyrhtyhms, theatrics, and aleatory. Her music defies expectation as it toils over the adventurous sonorities of the early 20th century and collages them with Afro-Caribbean folk music and modern syncopations resulting in a fresh and culturally collaborative 21st Century sound. Her pieces are programmatic by nature and are filled with lyrical and modal melodies drawn from Gabrielle's background as a vocalist. Her pieces have been performed at the University of Pennsylvania, at Berklee College of Music, Montclair State University and more.
